When the chilly winter winds start to blow, and temperatures start to plummet, it surely is comforting knowing that your chickens will be cozy in their coop, snuggled up nicely, next to a safe, warm, comfortable heater.
The Sweeter Heater Coop & Brooder Heater checks all the boxes regarding safety, heating capability, warranty, efficiency, and a lot more. I’ll tell you all about it below.
Name: SWEETER HEATER COOP & BROODER HEATER – 4 SIZES
Website: https://www.mypetchicken.com
Price: $114.00 – $192.00
Owners: Infratherm Products, Inc
Why the Sweeter Heater?
The Sweeter Heater is crafted in the Wisconsin woods by a family whose goal is to create a heating plate that is safer than other heaters yet powerful enough to keep your chickens warm.
There are no bulbs to break or to burn your chickens. The infrared technology in the Sweeter Heater sends radiant heat straight down to your chickens, warming their bodies and any equipment that happens to be in the heating area.
In fact, you can place your hand on the heating surface without getting burned. The chances of a fire starting because of the Sweeter Heater are negligible, so that it can be left on continuously without worry.
In a situation where you place your heater in a tight spot, for additional safety, the Sweeter Heater has a snap-action thermal control to insure heaters turn off automatically when heat is not allowed to escape.
It saves money compared to using an infrared 250-watt heating bulb. At 150 watts, the Sweeter Heater can save up to $3.00-$5.00 per week based on continuous use vs. the bulb.
The warranty is spectacular.
The Scharf family really stands behind their products. Here is the warranty:
“WARRANTY: The Sweeter Heater units have a three-year warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. Power cords are not included in this warranty. Damage from mishandling, abuse or animal damage will void the warranty. In the unlikely event your heater fails to heat, it can be returned for evaluation in cleaned condition to the manufacturer. Please call or email for prior authorization.”
How The Sweeter Heater Coop and Brooder Heater Works
Unlike a typical heating plate that maxes out at 125 degrees F, the Sweeter Heater temperature reaches 180 degrees F. This allows you to heat baby chicks in the brooder and use it all the way to the chicken coop when the chickens get older.
This heater does not have legs but is hung from a chain so that it can be used at any height from inches off the floor all the way to the ceiling. This is a plus when chickens reach chicken coop age.
For baby chicks, place the heater about 6 inches off the floor. Allow the chicks to settle in. Your heater is too low if the chicks move away from the heat. If they chirp continuously, they are too cold. You need to lower the heater a little.
As your chickens grow older, adjust the height of the heater to suit their needs.
What are People Saying About it?
Amazon reviews give this Sweeter Heater Coop & Brooder Heater 4 and a half out of 5 stars. Here’s what some people are saying…
HollyM147 said, “Chickens are happier”
Matta said, “Made in the U.S.A ! If that doesn’t say enough. These heaters are hand made by people who care about the safety of your animals. They even write hand written messages on your shipping box “thank you for your business” and “thank you for being a ‘repeat customer’ .. they actually remember you and thank you ! It’s those little things like that say a lot and means a lot when it comes to customer service and having a personal relationship with the customer. They are a company who truly cares about you. I trust this company more than any comparable product on the market hands down. Thank you Sweet Heater. My hens will be safe and warm and protected all through those cold days and nights for years to come. Thank you again”
Daren and Whitney said, “We recently purchased a second one of these heaters, since our flock is expanding. We love that they use relatively little electricity and give our hens a way to warm up without the risk of a coop fire. Well worth the buy if you raise chickens in a place with cold winters!
What I Think
Drum roll, please… I’d give this coop and brooder heater a 9 out of 10 rating for several reasons: safety, durability, ease of installation, ease of use, value, warranty, and all-around quality. The manufacturer says they never had to replace one due to a failure of the heating element.
The only reason I didn’t give it a ten is because it only has one setting.
