The label reads, “Nutrition For Energy And Performance! Rich In Omega 3 &6 Essential Fatty Acids! Great For OMEGA EGGS! Ideal For Vibrant Colorful Plumage.” That all sounds great, and according to users, this product works as intended, with a few exceptions.
Hi! It’s Dave. I review chicken-raising items and use them, too. I am the author of this blog and care enough about my chickens to give them the best shot at a healthy life.
Kickin’ Chicken is a supplement sprinkled on feed and scratch that provides a boost in fatty acids and fat that are said to boost chickens’ immune systems, produce omega-rich eggs, reduce molting stress, support proper nutrition, energy levels, and overall health, and produce more colorful and full plumage.
Name: Kickin’ Chicken Feed Supplement
Website: Healthycoat.net
Price: $54.54/gallon for one-time purchase or $46.83/gallon by subscription
Owners: Healthy Coat
- Boosts immune system
- Omega rich eggs
- Reduces stress during molting
- Designed to support proper Nutrition, Energy levels, and Overall health
- For more colorful and full plumage
Overall Rank: 9.9/10 due to a few negative comments I found on Amazon. Is that fair? I think so. After all, only Bo Derek and a handful of Olympians are perfect 10s.
Some of you know what I’m talking about, but for those of you who don’t, there was a 1979 Movie starring Bo Derek and Dudley Moore in which Derek was portrayed as a 10. Such movies aren’t made these days, but Kickin’ Chicken is, so I’ll get back on track.
How Kickin’ Chicken Works
Kickin’ Chicken is mixed in with chicken’s regular feed. If you put your feed in a garbage can like I do, you can mix some into the top at a rate of 1 to 2 tsp per 2 lbs of feed. Add 16-32 oz per 50 lbs. of feed for bulk feeding. Start with lower amounts and gradually increase as your animal is on the product longer.
Store out of direct sunlight. Like many supplements, shake gently before administering to your chickens’ feed, as settling may occur.
Benefits of Kickin’ Chicken include helping the girls through the molt. Molting is very stressful on chickens, and supplementation may not be critical, but it is certainly helpful. Just as humans do better with advanced nutrition while healing from injuries, so do chickens while molting.
My Conversation With The Owner
Scott Graham, the creator of Kickin’ Chicken and the owner of Healthy Coat, is a super-nice guy with a background in animal care. We had a brief yet informative conversation about the shelf life of Kickin’ Chicken.
I asked Scott about the supplement’s shelf life because it only has a date of manufacture and no expiration date. He said that with proper care, it should be good for “10 years.” He cited vitamin E and fatty acids as the reason for the long life.
He then explained how choline and lecithin are essential for digestion, skin, and feather health and how they are all connected. I can assure you that he knows how to keep chickens’ bodies and himself healthy, citing his affinity for water skiing as a baby boomer.
It was a good chat, and I left knowing that Healthy Coat is in great hands and that Its products are the real deal.

Some Reviews
JAC5.0 out of 5 stars. “My “girls” love it!” Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2022
“I don’t make all of their feed with it because of the cost, but I do give them some every afternoon mixed in some feed. I make 5lbs at a time and serve it to them in the afternoon. It has a lot of great nutritional value, especially when molting. My girls love it! They get excited when I bring it out.”
Jac doubles her money by feeding only half the time but still notices a difference.
Rich noticed a difference in 10 days.

My Take
Kickin’ Chicken is one of those products that does what it says it will do. If you have show birds, it will make them look better. If you have layers, your eggs will be marginally better. I say marginally because if you care enough about your chickens to give them Kickin’ Chicken, you already take good care of them.
Would I buy it? Yes, I do. It’s almost time for the molt, so I’ve opened a fresh bottle to get ahead of it, but there’s more to it than that.
Healthy chickens are less likely to contract illnesses and have a better chance of recovering if they catch something. I recommend Kickin’ Chicken to keep your chicken’s skin, digestion, and feathers in top-notch shape.

I notice that they put date made and not when the date it should be used by on the chicken feed. How long do you think it takes before it goes bad? I think they should put the use by date on their products. Who knows how long g it’s been sitting on the shelves!
Hey, Donna! It’s good to hear from you. I reached out to the manufacturer, but they haven’t gotten back to me yet, so I did some research, and this is what I found.
Once opened, Kickin’ Chicken generally has a shelf life of about 6 months. However, it’s crucial to store it properly to maintain its freshness and effectiveness. You should keep the supplement in a cool, dry place, tightly sealed after each use to prevent exposure to air, moisture, and direct sunlight, which can degrade the quality over time.
If you notice any changes in color, smell, or texture, it’s best to err on the side of caution and toss it, as this could indicate spoilage or rancidity. If you notice settling, just give it a shake. It’s just the lecithin settling out.
Update: Hi again, Donna. I just got off the phone with Scott Graham, the owner, creator, and clearly the greatest advocate for Kickin’ Chicken there is. He said the shelf life of the supplement should be years if stored properly and properly capped. He actually said 10 years. He did agree that if not stored properly, it could go rancid, but that smell is not the best indicator and that even if it smells a little fishy, it is still effective. He cited vitamin E, lecithin, and choline as the main ingredients that make the product so effective.
And there you have it from the owner’s mouth. And speaking of Horses, Healthy Coat makes products similar to Kickin’ Chicken for many types of pets including horses, goats, dogs and cats. FYI:)
What do you think of Kickin’ Chicken? Do your girls like it?
